I got the Plantronics Gamecom 780 like a month ago and I really liked the headset because it was a good replacement for the Logitech G35 and the mic was working good just yesterday.
But for whatever reason when I got on vent this morning and when im trying to talk on vent no one can hear me talk, so i try unplugging my headset and restarting my computer and still nothing.
Is there any way to fix this or is the mic just dead?
Are you plugging directly into your computer? Do you by chance have another computer you can try the headset on to see if the issue follows the headset or the computer? If you would like to contact the Technical Assistance Group, I have provided the link below for you:
I have a similar problem.
I have been using the headset/microphone with no problem for months in an office environment for VOIP and little else.
This morning when I went to use it the microphone is dead--Windows 7 says no sound is being detected.
Nothing on my system has changed since yesterday.
Very frustrating, as I was until now very pleased with the performance.
Stephen, unfortunately, it sounds like your mic is defective and the headset should be replaced. I've included a link to our page where US customers can begin the warranty replacement process. Let me know if you are not in the US and I'll give you the appropriate instructions for your region. To start the process, create an account on our site and then register your headset with us. You will then be able to request a warranty replacement.
Hahahaha, and the tragic thing is that i was just ready to go buy a new headset or microphone. I was smashing my head to the table when i was reading your post and realised that i had accidentally muted the mic.
I hope i am not the only one who didn't realise that, since i had forgotten totally for a whole year that there was a mute function.
Thanks man, you just saved me from spending 80+ euro on a new headset
Just started having this problem this morning. Hadn't used the MIC in over a month and I went to record vocals over my guitar track and got nothing. Went in to the properties and the green sound recognition indicator was stuck at one bar no matter how much I yelled and screamed. I put my lips up to it and made it move a little. Thought there was a short in the cord. Thank god for finding this forum and being reminded that there is a mute switch. Seems weird that it doesn't mute it completely since you can put your lips against it and hear yourself. I had actually taken off the headset and looked for a MIC switch at first. Couldn't even see it! Bad switch design. Should pop out more or have a little power LED located next it. Thank you for your help though. You saved me digging through my filing cabinet looking for the receipt. Plantronics needs to put this in an F.A.Q. or something.
Have you tried another USB port? Are you plugging directly into your computer and not a hub or docking station? Go to your Device Manager, under sound video and game controllers and uninstall the headset. Then unplug the headset, reboot the computer and then re-install the headset to see if that resolves your issue. If this doesn't resolve your issue, do you have another computer you can try the headset with to see if the issue follows the headset or the computer?
If none of my suggestions resolve your issue, if this is a new headset, please return it to the store where it was purchased for another one. If it is outside the store's warranty, Plantronics can replace it for you, please follow the process below:

i got a replacement from you guys because the mic wasn't working. i am still facing the same problem i want to hear the sound through my speakers so i set my speakers as default sound but if i do that my mic stops working and works in only some apps like raidcall but i cant hear any sound from raidcall its really buggy it used to work fine but no there's all sorts of problems now. I also uninstalled the drivers and installed the release 3 from you guys but nothing happened still experiencing same problems hope there is a solution because i have three pairs one of them isn't even opened yet.
In your computer you should be able to select separate devices for Playback and Recording. Recording is what is used by your computer for the mic. Playback the speakers. Go to Control Panel, Sounds, Select your computers speakers as the default device in Playback. And the headset as the default device in Recording. You may have to close and reopen the applications you are trying to use the headset with for the change to take.
yes i have done that and i know that i have to exit the app for the setting to take effect I'm not some newbie I am a IT specialist, I build custom PCs so in know that its on the headset side that the problem is taking effect in I've had a lot of headsets, this is the first time I am experience any problems with mic/sound being muted.
This isn't an issue we have come across with our headsets. I have tested the headset with 2000, xp, vista, 7, and 8. In each of those you are able to disable the headset speakers in Playback, and still have the mic active in Recording. Lets check to see if the mic is not functioning for the computer when you disable the headset, or if the issue is just with your application.
Go to Control Panel then Sounds. Disable the headset under Playback, enabled it for Recording. And talk into the mic. To the right of the listing for the headset you should have a bar. That part should show levels of green if it detects the audio from the mic. If that is functioning the headset is working correctly with your computer. If the audio still isn't available through your application, it may be a setting or limitation of that application. You would need to contact the manufacturer of that application to troubleshoot that issue.
Hope this helps.
